After completing an MA in Fashion \u0026amp; Textiles with Distinction, he worked for British couturier Murray Arbeid and later co-founded the fashion textile studio The Collection. Alongside professional practice, he lectured widely, including on the MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"858\" data-start=\"553\"\u003eMatthews’ hand-tufted carpets, produced in Portugal, were exhibited in leading London interiors spaces and featured in \u003cem data-end=\"686\" data-start=\"672\"\u003eThe Observer\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem data-end=\"707\" data-start=\"691\"\u003eHouse \u0026amp; Garden\u003c\/em\u003e. His work toured museums in the United States as part of \u003cem data-end=\"780\" data-start=\"765\"\u003eFor the Floor\u003c\/em\u003e, following a portfolio presentation in New York to gallerist Holly Solomon.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1046\" data-start=\"865\"\u003eIn 2020, Matthews undertook a residency at the European Ceramic Centre (EKWC), the Netherlands, joining a lineage of artists including Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley and Tony Cragg.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1459\" data-start=\"1053\"\u003eHis work explores reflection, surface and depth, often engaging both front and reverse. Using laser-cut metal, wood, paper, ceramics, glass, copper wire, pigment and resin, Matthews creates dimensional works that range from minimal restraint to decorative opulence.
