Tambour Screen in Fumed Poplar by Tom Roberts
A sculptural, tambour screen designed by Tom Bogle founder, Tom Roberts.
The tambour screen occupies a space between functional object and art, defined by attention to form, material, and movement that invites visual contemplation and spatial engagement.
Each screen is crafted from poplar that is fumed, stained, and waxed by hand. This layered process produces a surface of depth and variation evocative of charcoal and ink washes. Shifts in light reveal a changing interplay of shadow and sheen.
When fully extended, the screen adopts a stepped, architectural silhouette while its articulation allows for a range of sculptural configurations, including a compact cylindrical form that facilitates storage or transport.
Handmade to order in England, each screen measures approximately 200 cm in height and 235 cm in width when fully extended. Every piece is bespoke; custom dimensions and finishes are available upon request, offering the opportunity to align the work precisely with its intended setting.
