Prototype Lounge Chair, c.1990
A one of a kind, prototype lounge chair, designed and made in London circa 1990. The chair comprises two geometric elements upholstered in Kvadrat wool, which form the seat, back and arms. These elements are supported by a stainless steel semi circular frame that protrudes from a heavy circular stainless steel base.
The contrast between the upholstered volumes and the stainless steel structure gives the chair a distinctly sculptural quality.
Its experimental construction and combination of soft geometric forms with steel are characteristic of the renewed interest in expressive, independently produced furniture that emerged from London’s design scene during the late 1980s and 1990s.
